Buddhist Pilgrimage Tours (dharma yatra)

Nepal occupies a unique position in “Buddhism” history of being the birth of its founder. Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini grove about 15 miles from his father’s state of Kapilvastu. In the early centuries Buddhism of nepal most likely developed along the lines of North India.

It was when Muslims invaded Bihar and Bengal in the later twelfth century that many Buddhist monks and scholars took refuge part of Buddhist art and literature. Day 04:

Day 05:
 Spend this day exploring the other important Buddhist sites in and around the Lumbini area. These include Tilaurakot, Niglihawa and Piplihawa. Overnight at hotel

Day 06:
 Drive to Nepal-India border and upon completion of immigration formalities continue driving Bodhgaya. It was here nearly 2500 years ago that Siddhartha, meditating under a Bodhi tree attained supreme enlightment and became the Buddha or the all knowing one” in Bodhgaya, visit the various sites which are considered important in the life of Buddha.

Day 07:
 Drive to Sarnath. Upon attaining Supreme Enlightment Buddha delivered his very first sermon here in this ancient town and thus began the journey that would shake established faiths of the time and begin something that would sweep the world with its message of love, peace, understanding and non-violence.

Day 08:
 Drive to Khusinagar. Having ceaselessly traveled the plains of present day north India, delivering his message to all who cared to listen, Buddha was returning to the place of his birth- Lumbini when in this remote town he attained Maha Parinirvana or was freed from the ceaseless cycle of re-births,

Day 09:
 Drive back to Indo-Nepal border and cross back to Lumbini. In the evening attend a medition session at one of the monasteries.

Day 10:
 Fly back to Kathmandu in the mid morning. Sightseeing of Kathmandu city in the afternoon.

Day 11:
 Free day in Kathmandu. Hotel

Day 12:
 Final departure, transfer to airport.

Program 3 :

Muktinath Darsan

Muktinath, a sacred place both for Hindus as well as Buddhists, is located at an altitude of 3,710 meters at the foot of the Thorong La mountain pass (part of the Himalayas) , Mustang district, Kingdom of Nepal. The Hindus call the place Mukti Kshetra, which literally means the “place of salvation”, while the Buddhists call it Chumig Gyatsa, which in Tibetan means ‘Hundred Waters’. For Tibetan Buddhists Muktinath-Chumig Gyatsa is a place of Dakinis, goddesses known as Sky Dancers. It is of great importance for Buddhists that Chumig Gyatsa is one of the 24 Tantric places.

The shrine of Muktinath is considered one of the eight most sacred shrines for Hindu Vashanavites known as Svayam Vyakta Ksetras, the other seven being Srirangam, Sri Mushnam, Tirupati, Naimisaranyam, Thottadri, Pushkaram and Badrinath. The temple is very small. Muktinath is one of the most ancient Hindu temples of God Vishnu. Many people also claim the shrine to be a Buddhist shrine. The idol is of gold and is tall enough to compare with a man. The prakaram has 108 bull faces through which water is poured. It is freezing temperature. There is an Old Buddhist monk present in the temple.

The Tibetan Buddhist tradition states that for this reason Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism had meditated at Muktinath on his way to Tibet. It is one of the 51 Sakthi peetams.

After breakfast early in the morning before 7:00 am. Departure to Pokhara (200km). You see good sceneries along the drive. In the afternoon you arrive Pokhara transfer to hotel. Visit Pokhara Lakeside, village sites, and “Front row center” to one of the most beautiful Himalayan panoramas in the world. The Annapurna and the famous “Fishtail” mountain peak of Machapuchhare tower over the tropical setting of Pokhara. Overnight at Hotel

Day 04: Pokhara to Tikhedhunga (1,491m)
After breakfast approx. 7:30 am drive to Nayapul (42km) 1 ½ hrs drive by car via large village of Lumle and walk about 20 min to Birethanti, a large and prosperous town. Beyond a posture used by pony caravans, the trial reaches Sudami ehere you have Lunch. After Lunch climb steadily up the side of the valley, reaching Hill at 1495m near by Tikhedhunga. Althooug various hamlets offer ample camping possibilities but if Ghorepani is the objective for the next day it is better to push on to Tikhedhunga. Overnight at guesthouse

Day 05: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2855m) 6 hrs
After breakfast early in the morning 7:00 am. The trial crosses a stream on a suspension bridge near the camp site at Tikhedhunga. The trail ascends a steep stone staircase to the large magar village Ulleri at 2070m. There are magnificent more pleasantly through rhododendron and oak forest. There is a hut with water and small camp site about 1 hr above Ulleri. The trail crosses sparkling clear two streams before making a short final climb to Nangethanti. Thanti is a Nepali word which means “rest house” “ Dharmasala”. From Nangethanti about one hour trek climb to Ghorepani at (2855m). Arrive at Ghorepani pass and camp there.

Day 06: Ghorepani to Tatopani (1189m) 7 ½ hrs
After breakfast you trek from Ghorepani to Tatopani. After descending through the rhododendron forest, fine vistas open up we approach Chitre, with the Dhaulagiri Range straight ahead. The path then leads through terraced fields to Sikha, a magar village clustered on the ridge. You continue to descend gradually at first and than more steepy to cross the Ghar Khola. After a short climb, we then cross the Kali Gandaki on a large suspension bridge and from here it is only short distance upstream to Tatopani. Tatopani takes its name from the hot springs near the river below the village. At Tatopani you can enjoy the Natural Hot Spring Bath.

Day 07: Tatopani to Ghasa
A lovely day walking along Kali Gandaki River side, gradually ascending with transition in sub tropical vegetation very interesting suspension bridge to be crossed that makes your trek exciting. Arrive Ghasa and ethnic Thakali village.

Day 08: Ghasa to Marpha
The trails follows the Kali Gandaki River through the narrow gorge, passing through Thakali traditional villages. Marpha is the main inhabitants of the ethnic group of Thakalis.

Day 09: Marpha to Kagbeni
As easy and lovely day walking along the river side to Jomsom the district headquarters of Mustang district. This is the most interesting town in the area. The spectacular views of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche peak and Dhampus Peak. Arrive Kagbeni, the entry point of the upper Mustang for overnight stop.

Day 10: Kagbeni to Muktinath
Gradually ascend to Muktinath one of the most important sites for Hindus. The holy water flows from the 108 carved spouts surrounding the Bishnu Temple in a grove of secret poplars.

Day 11: Muktinath to jomsom (2713m)
From Muktinath to Jomsom, we see people from Mustang, a restricted area to the north, who come to sell handicrafts to pilgrims. Among their merchandise is the highly-revered mollusk fossil called Shaligram. We will pass some ancient caves and see the impressive White Mountain that is the Dhaulagiri. We also transit at the significant town of Kagbeni, which is at a junction of 2 rivers and the north-south and east-west trading routes.

Day 12: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara which takes about 35 min
The flights are available during the morning time. The strong breeze blows during the afternoon and frequent change of weather prevents the flight being landed and taken off in the afternoon. During the flights in morning the sky looks very clear which makes you to enjoy the splendid views of different mountain peaks.

Day 13: Driver from Pokhara to Kathmandu. 6hrs
While driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu, you head up to Damauli, Dumre, Muglin and Kurintar where the Nepal’s first Cable Car is operated to reach Manakamana Temple. You can also fly to Kathmandu from Pokhara which takes about 25 minutes.

Day 14: Free day at Kathmandu.

Day 15: Final Departure. Transfer to airport.

Program 4 :

Langtang Gosainkunda lake Darsan

Gosaikunda is a lake in Nepal in Rasuwa district that is the site of regular Hindu pilgrimage. It is situated at the height of 4,380 meters from sea level, and melts and sips down to form the Trishuli River. It is on the way of a popular trekking route of Dhunche-Gosainkunda-Helambu trail. In fact there are 108 total lakes, small to medium in this area and also the challenging Lauribina La pass 4,610 meters on its outskirts.

Gosainkunda trek adjoins the famous Langtang trek in the same district. The lake remains frozen for 6 months in winter October to June. There are plenty of hotels along the route to Helambu trek. The best season to visit is June.

It is believed to have originated from the digging of the land by the Trishul (holy 3 pointed sword) of lord Shiva after he drank the poison from samudramanthan and desperately wanted cold water to drink to quench the overwhelming heat of the poison.

 Chandanbari to Gosainkunda passing Lauribinayak. After Passing the Lauribinayak the trail becomes much narrow and misty as well as change in vegetation too as the green vegetation becomes much deserted & rocky. From lauribinayak takes about 3 hrs to reach to Gosainkunda from the top you will see the beautiful Himalayan Ranges. Overnight at hotel

Program 5 :

Damodar kunda Lake yatra

The Damodar Kunda (lake) is famous for Hindu religion, it is situated rain shadow are of High Himalayas north of Annapurna range. The elevation of the Damodar Kunda is just 4890 meters; it is cold and windy place. We will recommend to you visit during the full moon of August every year, because every year there is a big festival up there many pilgrimages Hindu and Buddhist visit full moon of August. Usually, you can visit April to September every year. Festival time will be great for visit Damodar Kund. From Damodar Kund, the views are great from some viewpoints a bit higher than the lakes, just a short climb up some of the hills. The Tibetan plateau & Damodar Himal to the north and the Annapurna Himalayan massive to the south. The Damodar lakes are located three days walk north east of the main Mustang trekking route & very close to Tibetan border. Damodar Kunda lies on restricted upper mustang between Kagbeni and Muktinath.

In the column of Barah Puran; Lord Krishna has said that who pays a visit to this Kunda and takes a deep-bath, they will be freed from all the sin. It is also mentioned in Puran that two sons of Kubers were suffering from their wrongdoing & sin, which they did in their previous birth but lord Krishna suggested them to take bath in this Kunda and immediately after taking bath in this Kunda they were released from all their sin. So the importance of a visit to this sacred place cannot be described in a short paragraph.

Day 04: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2700 m.) and it takes about 25 minutes
Trek from Jomsom to Kagbeni (2810 m.) which takes about four hours. Directly north of Jomsom is the pretty village of Kagbeni, There are about 80 families living here, most of them traders who are the link in the chain between modern Nepal and the Tibetan-type people of Mustang. Just out of Jomsom you cross a small hanging bridge and then walk along the banks of the Kali Gandaki. The trail is quite barren with craggy rocks and sand and is mostly flat, which makes it very easy going. Over to the south and south-west can be seen the entire Annapurna Massif. Upon reaching Kagbeni there is a taste of scenes to come in Upper Mustang, what with its narrow alleyways and tunnels, irrigation canals, green fields of wheat and barley and a large red gompa.

Day 05: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele and it takes about six hours.

Day 06: Trek from Chele to Geling which takes about four hours.

Day 07: Trek from Geling to Ghami (3490 m.) via Ghami La (3520m.) 5 hrs
From Geling the trail climbs gently through fields, up the center of the valley, passing above the settlement of Tama Gun and an imposing chorten. You then begin a taxing climb across the head of the valley to the Nyi La [3840m]. The descent from the pass is quite gentle and about half an hour further on we come to a trail junction; the right trail is the direct route to Charang, the left trail leads to Ghami. Ghami is a large white-washed village sheltered by overhanging cliffs.

Day 08: Trek from Ghami to Tsarang (36200 m.) 5 hrs
Today’s walk is through perhaps the driest part of Mustang, and much of your energy will be spent negotiating loose, dry soil. However, the magnificent views of the countryside, from the gentle contours of the north to the rugged mountains in the east and west, are a source of inspiration. Finally, you come to Charang, a large spread-out village at the top of the Charang Chu canyon. At the eastern end of the village are a huge dazing [fortress] and a red gompa which houses an excellent collection of statues and thangkas.

Day 09: Trek from Tsarang to Lo-Manthang [Mustang](3730 m.) 3 hrs
You will spend part of the morning exploring the interesting village of Charang and its large monastery, before setting out for Lo Manthang. You climb gently above the valley to a large isolated chorten that marks the boundary between Charang and Lo. The trail then broadens and eventually you get our first view of the walled city of Lo Manthang. The city has only one entrance so you circumambulate the wall to the gate on the north east corner.

Day 10: Acclimatization and explore around Lo-manthang.
Today is free to explore the fascinating city of Lo Manthang, untouched since the 14th century. The city contains about 150 houses, as well as residences for its many lamas. There are four major temples within the city and one of these, Champa Lhakang, contains a huge clay statue of Buddha as well as elaborates mandalas painted on the walls. The king’s palace is an imposing building in the center of the city and is occupied by the current King and Queen. Although his duties are largely ceremonial, the King is respected by the people and consulted about many issues by villagers throughout the kingdom.

Day 11: Trek from Lo-manthang to Yara.

Day 12: Trek from Yara to Bas Khola.

Day 13: Acclimatization at Bas Khola.

Day 14: Trek from Bas Khola to Damodar kunda (Lake).

Day 15: Trek from Damodar Kunda to Ghechung Khola.

Day 16: Trek from Ghechung Khola to Tange.

Day 17: Trek from Tange to Muktinath.

Day 18: Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2713 m.) 5 hrs
Today you continue down for early two hours and then walk through the flat path till we reach Jomsom. Between the walk lies Eklebhatti village where you find tea houses and lodges.

Day 19: Fly back from Jomsom to Pokhara which takes about 35 minutes.
The flights are available during the morning time. The strong breeze blows during the after and frequent change of the weather prevent the flight being landed and taken off in the afternoon. During the flights in morning, the sky looks very clear which makes you able to enjoy the splendid views of different mountain peaks.

Day 20: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by tourist mini bus that takes about seven hours. While driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu, you head up to Damauli, Dumre, Muglin and Kurintar where the Nepal’s first Cable car is operated to reach to Manakamana Temple. En route, you could enjoy the mountain views, green sceneries, rice terrace fields, vegetable fields and people being engaged in their daily life activities. From Naubishe you climb up to Thankot, the gateway to capital city. You can also fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu which takes about 25 minutes. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 21: Free day at Kathmandu. Overnight at Hotel.

Mt. Kailash Mansarovar Lake Darsan

Manasarovar Lake lies at 4,556 m above mean sea level. It is the highest fresh-water lake in the world. Lake Manasarovar is relatively round in shape. The lake freezes in winter and melts only in the spring. The Sutlej River, the (Brahmaputra River), the Indus River, and the Karnali River all trace their sources to its close vicinity.

Like Mount Kailash, Lake Mansarovar is a place of pilgrimage, attracting religious people from India, Tibet and the neighboring countries. Bathing in the Manasa Sarovar and drinking its water is believed to cleanse all sins. Pilgrims come to take ceremonial bathes in the cleansing waters of the lake.

According to Hindu religion, the lake was first created in the mind of the Lord Brahma. Hence, in Sanskrit it is called “Manasarovar”, which is a combination of the words Manas (mind) and Sarovar (lake). The lake, in Hindu mythology, is also supposed to be the summer abode of swans, which are considered as very wise and sacred birds. It is also believed the Devas descend to bathe in the lake between 3 and 5 am the time of the day known as Brahma Muhurta. Buddhists also associate the lake to the legendary lake known as Anavatapta in Sanskrit and Anotatta in Pali, where Queen Maya is believed to have conceived Buddha. The lake has a few monasteries on its shores. The most notable of which is the ancient Chiu Gompa Monastery, which has been built right onto a steep hill. It looks as if it has been carved right out of the rock. The Jains and the Bonpas of Tibet equally revere this spot with great enthusiasm.

We start our journey at early morning from our office. We will have our breakfast at Dhulikhel after one and half hour drive. After driving at down hill river valley of Sunkoshi and Bhotekoshi. We arrive at the border about 11:00 am. After immigration formalities at the Nepal side you will drive further to Zhangmu. Here also you will have to complete immigration formalities from the Chinese side. From Zhangmu drive further to Nyalam for 2 ½ hrs. Overnight at guesthouse

Day 04: Acclimatization day at Nyalam (3,750m). Overnight at guesthouse

Day 05: Nyalam to Saga (4,650m) (Labug-La 5050m, Peku-tso and Saga, 245 km)
On the first long driving day over the sandy and rocky land of Tibet, other things like lake, nomads chasing thousands of Yaks and sheep keep you busy. By the late afternoon you will cross Brahma Putra River way to typical Chinese and Tibetan town. Saga for night. Overnight at guesthouse

Day 06: Saga to Paryang (4,540m) 230km 7-8 hrs
Jeeps and trucks roll on the wide valley following rivers and grazing land of yaks and sheep. Far south you can see snow covered peaks nearby you, lots of rocky peaks and a sand dun gives you an ideal world. Depends on season, nomads and other mobile shopkeepers are attired by beautiful traditional costume, waiting your arrival with hot tea and other supplies along with big smile.

Day07: Drive Paryang to Manasarovar (4,556m)
The longest driving day (277km) starts with full of excitement, by the late afternoon you can have the first sight of Holy Kailash Parbat and Manasarovar. Here, a small village near by the Lake Manasarovar.

Day 08: Rest day in Manasarovar (4,556m)]
The highest lake of fresh water with turquoise complexion in the world Is full of fishes and swans. Holy Kailash Parbat, Mt.Gurula-Mandala, Lake Rashekshi are lying on its surrounding. The region is considered rich for gold and other mines, hot springs and hundreds of wild living creatures. After lunch we will drive around Manasarovar Lake for 3-4 hours for Parikarma.

Day 09: Manasarovar to Tarchen(4,700m)
After complieting the memorable morning Bath and Puja we will drive towards Tarchen.

Day 10: Tarchen to Dira Puk (5000m)
After early breakfast, depart to Tarboche (starting point for Kailash Parikarma). It is one of the exciting days walking along the beautiful rocky cliffs; water falls with some clouds in the clear blue sky make you feel that Great God Shiva is every where with tons of blessing to you. Time ti time the face of Mt.Kailash will keep on appearing.

Day 11: Cross Dolmala pass and trek down to Zuthul Puk
Continue Parikarma over Dolmala pass (5,650m) this day is Hardest but Holiest day of your pilgrimage yatra. Once you reach the top, just do the holiest offering and sit down for meditation to forget yourself. Once your steps go down, Parvati-stal and Gauri Kunda are on the way. By the lake afternoon you will arrive Zuthal Puk (the cave of Miracles). The great ascetic Milerappa is supposed to have performed miracles here.

Day 12: Zuthal Puk to Tarchan to Manasarovar (4,556m)
After early breakfast trek further for 10km (4-5 hrs) to arrive at the ending point of Parikarma where jeeps shall be waiting to drive the pilgrims back to Manasarovar.

Day 13: Manasarovor to Paryang (4540m) which takes about 8-9 hrs. Overnight at guesthouse or tented camp

Day 14: Paryang to Saga (4640m) which takes about 8-9 hrs. Overnight at guesthouse or tented camp

Day 15: Saga to Nyalam which takes about 8-9 hrs. Overnight at guesthouse

Day 16: Nyalam to Kathmandu. Driver back to Kathmandu which takes about 8 hrs.

Day 17: Free day in Kathmandu. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 18: Final departure. Transfer to airport.

Day 02: Sightseeing Around the Kathmandu: We walk to Swayambhunath and climb 365 stone steps, with other pilgrims, to reach the hilltop home of a great stupa, with many chortens, shrines and monasteries. This is also home for hundreds of monkeys who act as if they own this hill – and perhaps they do. (Be cautious with the monkeys; who, though cute, may snatch things from your hands. They may bite you if they feel threatened.

We later visit the Bon Monastery to view their spiritual practices and herbal medicine and drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square and   religious monuments of Kathmandu. We visit the Royal Kumari House, where the Kumari, a living goddess, resides. We walk to Thamel through Asan Bazar, the oldest bazaar of the Kathmandu valley. Afternoon, we visit the temples and cremation sites of Pashupatinath (Lord of Animals), on the Bagmati River, sacred to Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil and sorrow. (Shiva is revered as the master of shamans.) We also visit Guheshwari, a powerful female deity temple and a shaman who manifests the Goddess Durga to do healings and divinations.
