Royal Bardia National park encompasses an area of 968 sq. km. in the mid-far Western region thickly forested by sal trees (Shorea robusta). An area of 327 sq. km belonging to the park was declared a buffer zone in 1997. The park accommodates blue bulls, deer, wild boars the langur and rhesus monkeys, civets, hyenas, rhesus macaque, jackal wild dogs, sloth bears, otters, tiger, rhinoceros, mongoose wild elephant, black buck, gharial and marsh mugger crocodiles, gangetic dolphin and many other rare and endangered species. Ardent bird watchers and naturalists find this park a paradise for sightseeing exotic bird species like Bengal florican, silver-eared mesia, lesser florican, saurus crane etc. On wildlife safari, you can witness awesome view of six different species of deer namely Chital or spotted Deer, Hog Deer, Sambhar deer, Swamp Deer, Barasingha deer and Barking Deer cheerfully hopping around the high grasslands. During your pleasurable visit to the park, you get ample opportunity to enjoy elephant safari, bird watching, rafting along Karnali River, village tour, cultural programme and crocodile breeding center tour. GETTING TO BARDIA NATIONAL PARK

By air
There is a daily one-hour fight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Soon after arriving at the airport, a representative from a resort that you have booked will drive you to the resort enlightening you with the mystiques of Royal Bardia national Park.

By road
There are several overland routes available to reach the park. You can either reserve a private transport or use local bus for your travel destination. It takes 15 hours from Kathmandu and 11 hours from Pokhara and Chitwan to reach Ambassa. On your drive, you will cross Dhangadi, Mahendranagar or Karnali depending on your selected route. Finally, a representative from your resort will receive you at Ambassa from where you will be driven to the resort.

By Raft

WILDLIFE SAFARI PACKAGE TOURS

The itineraries and activities of the Chitwan and the Bardia national parks are almost similar in character, but activities may vary between seasons. The number and course of your safari activities are determined by the number of nights you book for. Two nights – three days programs could include activities like Elephant back safari, jungle walk, bird watching, dugout canoe rides on the river. In the evening a cultural show of the traditional Terai dances are a must.

WHAT TO BRING

Neutral colored clothing is recommended.
Light clothing is needed for day time with a sweater and warm jacket for the evenings from November to March.
Pants / Trousers are recommended for elephant safari.
Comfortable walking shoes, sun hat, sunglasses etc. are essential. Insect repellent and personal medical requirements should be carried.
It is highly recommended to travel light with only one small suitcase or duffle bag.
During the warmer months swimming suits are recommended.
A Small flash light is recommended.
Binoculars add greatly to your enjoyment for bird and wildlife viewing.
